WHAT IS HEIF/HEIC/HEVC?

You’ve likely heard of the terms ‘JPG’ for images and ‘MPEG-4’ (or MP4) for videos, and this is the format that is universally supported online and on most devices. It is the most friendly type of video format with the web.

However, if you have an iPhone that has iOS11, the content you take will not be encoded into these 2 formats – instead they will be encoded into the much less friendly HEIF/HEVC formats. Any content that is uploaded using High Efficiency Image Format (HEIF) and High Efficiency Video Format (HEVC) will take longer to upload and might cause problems, especially playback on non-Apple devices.

If you’d prefer to snap your content in JPG and MP4 format and make it upload a bit faster, have a look at the 3-step instructions below to change it on your iPhone!
